Issued annually as of 1986, the Gold American Eagles long-featured the same designs on both the obverse and reverse fields. The 2021 date mark introduced the first-ever change halfway through the release schedule, giving the 35th anniversary of the coins a rollout with both the original design and the new design. As of 2022, Jennie Norris’ new depiction of the bald eagle is the permanent design on the reverse. Right now, certified-perfect 2022 1/10 oz Gold American Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

The new design from Jennie Norris was created in 2020. This effigy of the bald eagle was submitted by Ms. Norris through the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program. A gifted graphic designer, Ms. Norris has a passion for the great outdoors that comes through in her detailed depiction of the bald eagle.
The obverse side of 2022 Gold American Eagles features the historic depiction of Lady Liberty. Created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the design originally included only 46 stars around the field as a representation of the states in the Union in 1907. The design was later altered while in use on the $20 Double Eagle, with two stars added in 1912. When the US Mint revived the design in 1986 for this series, it added two additional stars to bring the ring to 50 in total.
On the reverse face of 2022 1/10 oz Gold Eagles is the new image of an American bald eagle. The left-profile image of the bald eagle was created with realism in mind. This detailed, up-close design shows the keen gaze and hooked beak of the bird that helps it dominate its prey, while its plumage is shown with exceptional detail.
