Platinum Kookaburras mark the third version of the Australian Kookaburra to debut at the Perth Mint. The series has long offered silver bullion versions of the coin, with 1 oz and 1 Kilo coins historically the most popular in that metal. However, a 1/10 oz gold version of the coin is also available in addition to these 1/10 oz platinum coins.
On the obverse of 2022 Platinum Kookaburras is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed in 2015 by Jody Clark, this effigy is the sixth-generation design for Australian coins and is the first since 1966 to include her shoulders within the portrait field. This image shows the queen at the age of 89 with the George IV State Diadem.
The reverse side of 2022 1/10 oz Platinum Kookaburras features an image of the largest member of the kingfisher species. This year’s design shows the bird as it sits perched on the edge of an ornate birdbath. The Agapanthus plant is featured in the background field. The Agapanthus is a flowering plant that is commonly used in gardens in Australia.
