The gold coins in the Gold American Eagle Series have been available since 1986. The United States Mint released two versions of this beloved series in 2021. The first releases had the original reverse design from Miley Busiek, while the coin issued in the second half of the year had the new image of a bald eagle from Jennie Norris. In 2022, the series moves to the future with only the Jennie Norris design featured on the coins. Right now, 2022 1/2 oz Gold American Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

The gold coins of the Gold Eagle Series broke new ground for the US Mint in 1986. The mint had not issued gold coins on a regular basis since 1933. With 22-karat gold content, the Gold Eagle marked the purest gold coin the US Mint had issued in 152 years. Each Gold American Eagle has .9167 gold content with a balance of silver and copper.

The obverse of 2022 Gold American Eagles features the historic vision of Liberty created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This stunning design shows Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks toward the viewer. She holds a torch in her right hand, carries an olive branch in her left, and is framed from behind by sun rays. The U.S. Capitol Building is at her feet while a ring of stars encircles her.

On the reverse field of 2022 1/2 oz Gold Eagles is the new design from Jennie Norris that debuted in 2021. This left-profile bust of the head of a bald eagle includes several detailed visuals of the bird’s physical characteristics. These include the hooked beak, its piercing gaze, and its elegant plumage.
