The 1/4 oz Gold Eagle from the United States Mint is one of four options available in the nation’s official gold bullion collection. Introduced in 1986, the 1/4 oz Gold Eagle’s record-high mintage came in its debut year when more than 726,000 coins were sold, while its record-low mintage came in 2007 with sales of just over 34,000 coins. Right now, near-perfect 2022 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Each 2022 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle available here comes with a Mint State 69 grade and a protective plastic slab. Coins in this condition are considered near-perfect specimens that exhibit full, original mint luster with no more than two minor flaws. Acceptable flaws at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin. Early Release specimens are those that the NGC received from the US Mint for certification within 30 days of release.

The coins of the Gold American Eagle Series enter 2022 with the first opportunity to showcase the new American bald eagle reverse design for a full year. Though the design debuted in 2021, it shared the limelight during the year with the final release of the original reverse design from Miley Busiek.

The obverse of 2022 Gold American Eagles comes with the vision of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this image shows Liberty walking toward you with sun rays on the horizon at her back, a torch held aloft in her right hand, and an olive branch in her left hand.

On the reverse side of the 2022 1/4 oz Gold Eagle is a depiction of the American bald eagle. This design from Jennie Norris shows the bald eagle in left-profile relief with its steely gaze fixed on a distant object. Its powerful hooked beak and its layer plumage are prominent features of the design.
