The 2017 issue year for the South African Mint included its first-ever Krugerrand coin struck in silver. The Gold Krugerrand captured the imagination of investors 51 years ago when it debuted in 1967 as the first gold bullion coin, and following its 50th-anniversary celebration, the coin is as popular as ever. Today, 2018 1 oz Silver South African Krugerrand Coins are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coin ships to you inside of protective plastic packaging for individual coins or in tubes of 25 and boxes of 500 coins!
  • Second release of a Silver Krugerrand coin!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .999 fine silver in BU condition.
  • The face value of 1 Rand is fully backed by South Africa’s government.
  • On the obverse is the image of Paul Krugerrand.
  • The reverse side features a Springbok antelope, South Africa’s official symbol.

The Silver South African Krugerrand coin was first issued in 2017 as part of the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Gold Krugerrand. That same issue year included a first-ever Platinum Krugerrand and Proof Silver Krugerrand, with many investors and collectors assuming the coins would be issued only in that year by the South African Mint because of the monumental occasion for the Gold Krugerrand coinage.

However, the 2018 1 oz Silver South African Krugerrand Coin is available and brings back the popular Silver Krugerrand format first offered in 2017. These coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, while the 2017 issues were a special Premium Uncirculated from the South African Mint. Last year’s coin had a 1 million-coin mintage, but the new 2018 1 oz Silver South African Krugerrand Coin will be struck to meet demand from investors just as its gold bullion counterpart is treated.

Krugerrand coinage is so-named through the combination of the man whose effigy appears on the obverse and the national fiat currency of South Africa. Circulation coins in South Africa are issued in the Rand denomination. Paul Kruger was an influential Boer from the late 19th century. His last name was combined with the fiat currency to form Krugerrand, though the Gold and Silver Krugerrand coins have no marked denomination on them.

The obverse side of the 2018 1 oz Silver South African Krugerrand Coin features the left-profile portrait of Paul Kruger. He served as President of the South African Republic through the 1880s and to the turn of the 20th century but would live out his life in exile away from his home country.

On the reverse side of 2018 Silver South African Krugerrand Coins, you’ll find the image of a Springbok antelope. The Springbok is the official symbol of South Africa and can be found throughout the country and the other nations occupying the southern reaches of the African continent.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
