The Wheat Penny was one of the most coveted penny designs on the nation’s lowest denomination coin. It was available in circulation from 1909 to 1958 and depicted the image of President Abraham Lincoln on the obverse field. Today, Wheat Pennies in 5,000 Count Bags are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Available to ship inside of a canvas bag!
  • Bag contains 5,000 Wheat Pennies with common date marks!
  • Issue dates range from 1909 to 1958!
  • Consists of 95% copper for most dates.
  • The face value of individual coins is $.01 (USD) by the United States.
  • On the obverse is the image of President Abraham Lincoln.
  • The reverse side of the coin includes the wheat stalk design.

The United States Mint originally issued pennies starting in 1793 with 100% copper content. Between 1793 and the 1850s, the copper content largely remained at 100% pure copper. In 1859, copper content had been normalized to 95% copper with zinc and tin to ensure the coins could stand up to the rigors of handling during circulation.

In this listing at Silver.com, you can purchase a canvas bag that contains a total of 5,000 Wheat Pennies. Most of these coins have 95% copper content and come with common date marks. The most readily available date marks today are those copper pennies struck in the 1940s and 1950s. There is the unique potential for World War II steel cents being in this bag. Steel cents were struck predominantly in 1943 using steel with a zinc plating so copper and tin could be redirected to the war effort.

On the obverse of Wheat Pennies is the right-profile portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. The design of Lincoln was created for the penny in 1909 by Victor David Brennan and his initials were first used on the reverse of the coins in 1909. They were removed from 1910 to 1917, and returned to the coins in 1918 on the obverse over Lincoln’s shoulder.

The reverse side of Wheat Pennies from the United States Mint includes the image of the coin’s nation of issue and denomination. In this case, “One Cent” and “United States of America” are engraved in the center of the design field with wheat stalks surrounding those engravings.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
