From 1987 to 2008, the 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coin had the lowest mintage figure among the four coins in the Proof Gold Eagle Series. Even though the 1/2 oz coin was the lowest minted in most years, it didn’t fall as far as the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles in this same year. Today, 2008 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coins are available to you online at Silver.com with a perfect certification.

The mintage of 2008 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle Coins fell significantly from the 2007 issue of the coins. The 1/2 oz coin was down a total of 21,423 coins. This marked the most significant year-over-year drop in demand for the 1/2 oz coin in the program’s history. The figure of 22,602 for the year was also the lowest mintage figure to date in the 1/2 oz weight. This figure would eventually be surpassed by the 2013 coin.

All of the 2008 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coins in this product listing come with a perfect PF70 certification from the NGC. Considered perfect specimens, these coins showcase full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws of any kind. The UCAM label that comes with purchase indicates the presence of strong, frosted design sets and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields on the coin.

The obverse of the 2008 Proof Gold American Eagle Coin features the image of Lady Liberty. This image was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 at a time when all American coinage was undergoing a significant revolution in the appearance of the designs used on circulation coinage.

On the reverse side of 2008 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagles is the image of a family of American bald eagles. The bald eagles depicted here were created in 1986 by Miley Busiek for exclusive use on the Gold American Eagle coinage.
