Gold American Eagle coins available in this listing have been certified Mint State 70 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. The NGC only grants an MS70 grade, its highest possible grade, to coins with no flaw, blemishes, hairlines, or other detracting marks. Each one of these coins maintains its original luster, and a sharp, attractive strike for its date and mint.
Coins from the 1st Day, First-10 Box are among the rarest from the United States Mint each year. These Gold American Eagles were struck during the first day of production at the Mint, then packaged and shipped as part of the first 10 sealed boxes leaving the facility. Due to the limited window possible for coins to earn this certification, there is a very limited supply of Gold American Eagles in this series.
On the obverse side of each coin is a full-length figure of Lady Liberty striding forward with the sun’s rays at her back, and the nation’s capital of Washington DC at her feet. The reverse side features a family of bald eagles in its nest. As the male returns with an olive branch in its talons, the female stands vigilant guard over the hatchlings.
The United States Mint strikes the majority of Gold American Eagles at one of its four primary facilities, the West Point Mint in New York. All Gold American Eagles contain .9167, or 22 karat, gold. The ½ oz. coin has a face value representative of its fractional weight, $25.
