These 2017 2 oz Silver Somalian Elephants are one of three new weights above 1 oz, with the 5 oz and 10 oz coin, and three fractional-weight coins were also added.

The obverse of the 2017 2 oz Silver Somalian Elephant Coin bears the newest African elephant design for the series. The world’s largest land mammal, the elephant is depicted in the middleground of the coin, with a small field of grass in the foreground and a traditional grass-roof hut in the background.
Located in Munich, Germany, the Bavarian State Mint is the production facility for these popular coins. Today it is one of Germany’s four primary mints, handling the production of both commemorative coins and German Euros for the Eurozone economy.
