When Adolph A. Weinman created the Walking Liberty coin design in 1916, there was no way he could foresee the future of this breathtaking design. The face of a popular half dollar in US circulation for over 30 years, the design remains in use today on official United States Mint coins, and other private-mint products. Today it’s available on the 5 oz Great American Mint Silver Walking Liberty Bar on Silver.com.
- Contains five ounces of .999 fine silver.
- Bears a replica of the Walking Liberty coin.
- Produced in the U.S.A.
- Ships in individual, sealed vinyl sleeves.
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin was introduced by the United States Mint for the first time in 1916, and remained in production until 1947. It is widely considered one of the finest coins in American history, and is currently the inspiration for the obverse design of the American Silver Eagle sovereign coin.
On the obverse side of this brand-new product from the Great American Mint is the inset image of a Walking Liberty coin. Featuring a strong, frosted finish, the coin bears the image of Lady Liberty as she strides confidently toward the setting sun as a symbol of America’s march towards a brighter future. Additional engravings on this side include the bar’s weight, purity, and metal content, as well as the “Made in U.S.A.” stamp.
The reverse side of the 5 oz Great American Mint Silver Walking Liberty Bar features repeating diagonal designs. The main engraving on this side includes the phrase “Five Troy Ounces .999 Fine Silver.” The background finish on both sides of the bar is deeply-mirrored, creating impressive contrast between the design sets and background fields.
The Great American Mint is located in Anaheim, California, and is one of the finest private facilities in the world. It produces a number of gold, silver, and copper rounds on an annual basis, and also strikes unique silver bars, such as this, that feature famous coin designs inset into the bar’s surface. Additionally, GAM provides gold and silver blanks for use in the production of sovereign coins at mints around the world.
