American coinage has long featured iconic and inspirational images that represent the nation, its people, and its culture. Among the most famous and widely used images are those of Lady Liberty and the bald eagle. Inspired by the images of Justice and furthered by the erection of the Statue of Liberty, depictions of Lady Liberty grace countless coins. The national emblem since 1792, it’s easier to find coins the bald eagle doesn’t appear on than to count those it does appear on. The 2017-W ¼ oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coin is available to you today online at in perfect condition!

Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 design of Lady Liberty was chosen in 1986 to represent the nation on the Gold American Eagle coin. Saint-Gaudens was a renowned artist and sculptor who was chosen personally by President Theodore Roosevelt to help redesign all of the nation’s gold and silver currency.

Saint-Gaudens’ design was featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933, and was the first coin redesigned in an effort by the government and the US Mint that stretched from 1905 to 1921. His Lady Liberty depiction is widely heralded as the single greatest design in American coinage history.

On the obverse of each 2017-W ¼ oz Proof Gold American Eagle coin is the image of Lady Liberty, surrounded by 50 stars with images of Washington DC visible at her feet. Her body is silhouetted by the rays of the rising sun in the background. Augustus Saint-Gaudens created this design originally in 1907 for use on the $20 Gold Double Eagle.

The reverse image is exclusive to the Gold American Eagle, and was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek. Her design features a family of nesting bald eagles, and is accompanied by engravings that include the coin’s face value, weight, metal content, and purity.

All Proof Gold American Eagle coins listed here are in perfect condition according to the PCGS. Coins with a PR70 certification exhibit full, original mint luster and bear no detracting flaws. DCAM coins have strong, frosted matte finishes and a deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
